Spa 24 Hour 1970 #31 Ebbro item 43537 |
|
This is a rare collectors model in 1:43 scale by Ebbro of Japan, brand new in original packaging, Ebbro item number 43537. In July 1968 Mazda released the revolutionary Familia Rotary Coupe or R100 as it was known in some markets. This was one of the first mass produced rotary engine powered cars, and offered exhilarating performance from its 982cc twin rotor Wankel engine. In 1969 Mazda took the R100 racing starting with success in the Singapore Grand Prix, then a creditable 5th and sixth at Spa for the 24 Hour enduro. The race versions used the Type 10A peripheral port engine like in the Cosmo Sport and generating close to 200 bhp. Buoyed by their 1969 successes they took four cars to Spa for the 1970 24 Hour race. They qualified as high as sixth and were in the leading group for much of the early part of the race, even leading at one stage. However engine gremlins claimed three runners leaving the #33 car of Roger Enever and John Hine finishing in fifth outright. This model is the #31 car of Toshinori Takechi and Yoshimi Katayama which failed to finish due to engine problems. This Ebbro model features accurate wheels with proper profile tyres, and a nicely modelled body that captures the shape and stance of the original car perfectly. Other features include flared mudguards, windscreen deflector, Marchal driving lights, windscreen wipers and all correct race markings and sponsors decals. The interior is also very well done, with woodrim steering wheel and column switches, detailed dashboard and instrument panel with all controls and other features shown, rear view mirror, centre console with gearshift lever and handbrake, race seat, roll cage and other race related details. Ebbro models are amongst the finest 1:43 scale models of their type available. Detail and finish are absolutely top class and second to none in this price range. All are limited editions, this item being one of only 2400 pieces originally produced for worldwide distribution. This item is brand new in original unmarked packaging. |
