This is a rare collectors model in 1:43 scale by Ebbro of Japan, brand new in original packaging, Ebbro item number 43729. In 1969 the fifth round of the World Championship for Sports Cars was the Targa Florio. It was the 53rd Targa and was held in May as usual. The Targa consists of ten laps of a 72 kilometre road course, and this year's average speed was 117 kmh. The race was won by the Porsche System Engineering entered Porsche 908/2 modelled here, driven by Gerhard Mitter and Udo Schutz. The 908/2 Spider was a lightened version of the 908 Coupe, the removal of the roof and long tail section losing around 100 kg from its weight. It was powered by a three litre air cooled flat eight with about 350 bhp. While this two valve per cylinder engine was down on power, it was reliable and suited to long distance racing. This model features accurate cast alloy race wheels with correct profile Dunlop race tyres. The body is very nicely proportioned and depicts the original car very accurately. Other features include rear view mirror, filler caps, jacking points, roll cage, exhaust system plus all the correct race markings, vents and grilles. The interior is also very well done, with steering wheel, fully detailed dashboard and instrument panel, gearshift and race seats with Sabelt harness. There is also full engine detail, with the flat eight injected engine and chassis tubes clearly visible in the rear bodywork. The rear undeside is also a lovely piece of modelling, with the engine, gearbos, exhaust system, chassis tubes, disc brakes and cooling tubes all accurately represented and painted in all the correct colours. This is a magnificent model and without doubt the finest 908/2 model made to date - it will satisfy the most demanding of collectors. Ebbro models are amongst the finest 1:43 scale models of their type available. Detail and finish are absolutely top class and second to none in this price range. All are limited editions, this item being one of only 3000 pieces originally produced for worldwide distribution. This item is brand new in original unmarked packaging. |
