Fiat 128 Two Door Saloon
Scuderia Filipinetti - Salzburgring 1971 - Walter Dona
Rio item 4175

This is a rare new release collectors model in 1:43 scale by Rio of Italy, brand new in original packaging, Rio item number 4175.

The Fiat 128 was quite a hit when initially released, it was Fiat's first front wheel drive car and the basic three box configuration offered a huge amount of internal space for its size. The 128 was powered by a Lampredi designed 1100cc SOHC engine, very oversquare and giving spritely performance with its 55 bhp output and seemingly endless rev range.

As well as being popular with the general public, the 128 was used for Taxis, Police and many other civil authorities. Its lively performance and modest price made it also popular with touring car racers in Italy and elswhere.

Scuderia Filipinetti entered two 128's in the second round of the European Touring Car Championship at Austria's Salzburgring the Easter Weekend of 1971. This is their #18 car which was driven by Walter Dona and finished fourth in class in a field dominated by the more powerful Alfa 1300 GT Juniors.

This model features Cromodora cast alloy wheels with correct profile tyres. The body is very nicely proportioned and depicts the original car very accurately. Other features include photo etched wipers and window frames, exhaust system, grilles and all the correct badges, vents and race markings.

The interior is also well done, with steering wheel, detailed dashboard and instrument panel, gearshift lever, roll cage, seats and many other details.

Rio models come mounted on a black plastic plinth in a clear plastic display box with outer cardboard window box. This item is brand new in original unmarked packaging.

The original family company has only recently been aquired by M4 and they are in the process of re-issuing some of the older items with improved detailing. The Rio range covers a very diverse series of vehicles from the 1900' s to the last few decades. The models are made in diecast metal with many other materials included for detailing, such as plastics, rubber and fine photo etchings on most items. They are individually hand assembled and finished in the M4 factory in Pesaro, Italy. These models collectors items and are not toys.
