This is a new release collectors model in 1:43 scale by Rio of Italy, brand new in original packaging, Rio item number 4198.

The Carrera Panamericana was a Mexican road race in the early fifties that counted towards the World Championship for Sports Cars. It attracted a wide variety of entries, and a combination of high speeds, indifferent road conditions and lack of access for emergency services made it one of the most dangerous motor sporting events of all time.

This Volkswagen 1200 Deluxe was one of the entries made by Mexican VW specialist Alfonso de Hohenlohe. It was driven the entire 3000 kilometres by Mexican driver Manuel Hinke, his time of just over thirty hours meant he finished in 79th position and 8th in class.

This Rio model features accurate wheels with correct profile tyres. The body is very nicely proportioned and depicts the original car very accurately. There are also plated bumpers and door handles, radio aerial and photo etched windscreen wipers. Other features include steering wheel, bucket seats, detailed dashboard and all correct race markings and sponsors decals. The underside also has some chassis details and exhaust system.

Rio models come mounted on a black plastic plinth in a clear plastic display box with outer cardboard window box. This item is brand new in original unmarked packaging.
